HE SERVICES FORMS SECURE PARTNERSHIP WITH ENIGMA VEHICLE SYSTEMS

Confirming the company’s commitment to plant security, H.E. SERVICES (Plant Hire) Ltd, the UK's largest specialist excavator hire company, has formed a close relationship with Enigma Vehicle Systems. After exhaustive research of the security market, H.E. SERVICES chose the Skyline GPS advanced tracking and security system from Enigma as one of a number of anti-theft systems used to protect the company’s fleet of over 2000 items of plant, offered for hire nationwide via twelve strategically located depots.

H.E. SERVICES has a policy of replacing fleet machines when they are between two and three years old and purchases only the most advanced and productive machines from manufacturers such as JCB, Komatsu, Hydrema, Thwaites and Bobcat. To appeal to the widest possible market, H.E. SERVICES offers all of its plant either on self drive hire, or with an experienced qualified operator. All digging machines from 3-34 tonne inclusive are fitted with Masterhitch Quickhitch Systems to make the changing of buckets and attachments a quick and effortless task. With an in-house fleet of delivery vehicles, H.E. SERVICES aims to leave nothing to chance, ensuring a prompt service at all times.

Skyline is the first system of its type in the construction plant and vehicles industry to combine tracking and recovery with a full telematics capability. A customised version of the Skyline system is utilised for different types of machine in the H.E. SERVICES fleet from excavators to backhoe loaders, telehandlers and skid-steers. With Skyline, H.E. SERVICES is able to immobilise machines remotely and track the movement of plant using Google Earth satellite images and road maps.

Skyline consists of servers, hardware and software, that provide information for detailed, relevant and user friendly reports on a 24/7 basis. Each vehicle or piece of plant remains in contact with the server 24/7 so their status is available to H.E. SERVICES at all times.

As mobile GSM coverage is virtually seamless within UK, this is the method by which data is sent from the piece of plant via the Skyline system to the servers. Using a service, known as GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), which is always on connection similar to broadband, data can be sent at fixed intervals and received within, on average, two seconds of transmission.

Using GPRS, the Skyline system receives updated positions from the GPS network, every second, stores this information and transmits data to the server. A connection is maintained, 24/7, with keep-alive messages being transmitted every 5 minutes. The Skyline system will report vehicle movements (authorised or unauthorised), tamper, ignition state and a host of other data via eight input/output ports that can be used for monitoring additional sensors. These may be fuel level, battery level, coolant, engine running/not running, engine covers open/closed and so on. Each system can be customised to provide the security and telemetry data required by both the customer and user.

In addition, customers can request positions, add zones around equipment and vehicles (for additional theft protection) and monitor hours used (per rental or accumulatively). Access to the system is via dedicated client software, internet browser, PDA or text only requests from a mobile phone.
Other options available on the Skyline system are:

• Optional keypad immobiliser with remote immobilisation feature.
• Text polling from mobile phone.
• PDA access with street level images.
• Driver identification option using electronic tags (RFID).
• Lone Worker Protection.
• Portable, personal tracking with voice capability.

As well as the equipment currently in the H.E. SERVICES fleet, the Skyline system can be used on any vehicle and all types of site equipment including compressors, generators, traffic light sets and powered access platforms.
