POLICE APPLAUD ACCURACY OF ENIGMA SKYLINE TRACKING INFORMATION IN THEFT RECOVERIES

The exactness of locations, maps, satellite imagery and a host of other forms of information that can be provided by the Skyline GPS advanced tracking, security and telematics system from Enigma Vehicle Systems PLC has been applauded by the police, enabling them to recover stolen vehicles and construction equipment both home and abroad. Some of the latest recoveries in Bristol, London, Immingham, Lincoln and as far afield as Poland and Germany have helped to maintain the very high recovery record attributable to the Skyline system.

In all these incidents, Enigma has worked closely with the Plant and Agricultural National Intelligence Unit (PANIU), a specialist intelligence unit based at the Metropolitan Police's stolen vehicle unit at Chalk Farm in North London. Set up in October 2008, the PANIU is manned by three experienced officers and is headed up by DC Ian Elliott. With intelligence from the Skyline system and other sources, PANIU has coordinated the recovery of more than £650,000 worth of machinery and arrested eight suspects for plant theft-related crimes in the last quarter alone. In one of the latest thefts of a JCB 8016 mini-excavator in the West Country, Enigma was able to pinpoint the location of the machine through the Skyline system, giving precise details of its whereabouts so that it could be quickly recovered by Avon and Somerset Police.

The exact location details provided to the police pinpointed the mini-excavator to the backyard of a house on a large housing estate in Lawrence Weston near Bristol. The police were able to use this data to direct their resources on the ground to the stolen equipment via the next door neighbour's garden. The police officer handling the recovery commented that without the precise information supplied, his units would not have been able to locate the stolen JCB mini-excavator because it was hidden from view covered with a tarpaulin inside a garage. The accuracy of the data and the prompt action of Somerset and Avon police led to the recovery of this expensive item of equipment and the arrest of two offenders.

Via information provided by Enigma, PANIU was able to direct colleagues to recover a stolen JCB 8016 model from its hiding place on a travellers site in Belvedere in South London. In the Poland incident, the intelligence unit was able to put Enigma in touch with DC Vince Wise from Hampshire Constabulary who was instrumental in the recovery of a JCB 802 mini-excavator which had been taken from Milton Keynes to Poland. A number of other stolen items were also secured as a result.
